That nearly one in five Oakland seniors survive on an annual income at or below $11,670.
That more than one quarter of all children in Oakland live in households with annual incomes under $23,000, the highest poverty rate in the Bay Area.
St. Mary’s Center addresses the epidemic of poverty in our neighborhood, city, and society. We act with the understanding that each person matters, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, race, and life circumstances. We stand with the lives of the often overlooked or forgotten in our community, and ardently advocate for basic human needs and rights.
For more than 40 years we have provided a safe environment where learning, healing, recovery and self-empowerment happen. Nearly 3,000 people are impacted each year by our work. Says a participant: “I am more than a recovering addict; I am part of a healthy community.”
