Winter Shelter Opens First Monday in December
St. Mary’s Center provides the only winter shelter exclusively for seniors in the Bay Area. Our winter shelter offers a safe and friendly environment, supportive staff, case management, and on-site services such as health assessments, mental health services, recovery programs, and nutritious meals.
Our shelter is open for 150 nights from the first Monday in December through the end of April. Up to 30 shelter guests receive a home-cooked dinner prepared and served by St. Mary’s volunteers, and breakfast each morning. Seniors who stay more than one or two nights meet with a social worker for case management and finding permanent housing. Seniors participate in a savings program and attend wellness meetings five days a week.
If you are un-housed and 55 years of age or older, call 510-923-9600 and ask to speak to the Worker of the Day, or come to our Center at 925 Brockhurst St. at San Pablo Ave. Monday through Friday, 9 am – 12 pm or 1 pm – 4 pm.
St. Mary’s Center is grateful to the hundreds of volunteers from student and youth clubs, faith groups, and community organizations who help us provide shelter, as well as:
- Alameda County Oakland Community Action Partnership
- Alameda County Social Services Agency
- City of Oakland Community Development Block Grants and PATH funding
- Federal Emergency Management Agency / United Way of the Bay Area
