Opened in 1990 by three Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Friendly Manor is a drop in center and residence for homeless women. As of September 2016, it is a program of St. Mary's Center and we are happy to continue this vital program that has been a beacon of light for women in West Oakland.

The Drop-in Center provides a safe haven for 60-70 women daily, providing breakfast and a simple lunch most days as well as laundry and shower facilities. We work to assist women in taking the "next step," however small, toward a better life.

We also host Transitional Housing, for twenty-five formerly homeless women as they work towards securing independent housing. Participants pay a portion of their income for housing and buy their own groceries. They learn how to live with others, share kitchen space, a common living area, and participate in regular house meetings. Everyone has a case manager and is working on an individualized program to move their life forward.

Friendly Manor is always looking for in-kind donations. If you're interested in making a donation, please take a look at our wish list here.
