Founded in 1990 by three Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Friendly Manor is a drop-in center and residence for unhoused women. In September 2016, St. Mary's Center assumed responsibility for continuing this vital program, a beacon of light for women in West Oakland.

The Drop-in Center provides a safe haven for dozens of women daily, providing breakfast and a simple lunch as well as laundry and shower facilities. Our experienced case managers and support staff work to assist women in taking the next step toward a better life.

Friendly Manor also hosts Transitional Housing for twenty-five formerly homeless women as they work towards securing independent housing. Participants pay a portion of their income for housing and buy their own groceries. They share kitchen space, a common living area, and participate in regular house meetings. Everyone has a case manager and is working on an individualized program to move their life forward.

Friendly Manor welcomes in-kind donations of personal care items and clothing. See our wish list here.
