Healthy Living Festival
On Thursday, September 21 St. Mary’s Center took a group of Seniors to the Healthy Living Festival at the Oakland Zoo. The United Seniors of Oakland and Alameda County hosts the Healthy Living Festival every year to provide a place for Seniors to visit a number of informational booths about various different programs that can help Seniors, a place to safely dispose of old medicine, and free health screenings.
The United Seniors of Oakland and Alameda County is a non-profit that focuses on issues that specifically concern Seniors living in Alameda County. Their mission statement is: “To provide institutional support for Seniors, to collectively participate in the public arena, to act from a position of strength, to enable the elderly to address the critical issues, and to change the conditions that impact their lives.” The Healthy Living Festival is an opportunity for the USOAC to connect Seniors to a number of different organizations and programs that can help them in a number of different ways.
And the mayor, Libby Schaaf, even joined in on the dancing!
