Point In Time Count (2024)

On January 25, 2024, St. Mary’s Center served as one of three Oakland training sites for volunteers conducting the Point-In-Time count, a biannual census of residents experiencing homelessness required by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Our new street outreach team helped take the lead.

More than 1,000 volunteers across Alameda County were recruited by EveryOne Home, the County Continuum of Care that oversees homeless services planning, to observe and survey unhoused neighbors. Alameda County and City of Oakland staff are collaborating to better track the scale and impact of homelessness in our communities.

New methodology is expected to improve the accuracy of the count and allow non-profit service providers and local government to analyze needs and target supportive services more effectively.

Complete data is expected in April. Stay tuned for updates.
