Homeless women find a safe haven during the day and enjoy breakfast, lunch, hygiene and laundry services at Friendly Manor, 2298 San Pablo Avenue, Oakland. More than 150 women have registered for services at the Drop-in Center and seek a protected place to rest, re-fuel and receive a warm welcome and friendly support.
Founded in 1990 by three Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Friendly Manor became part of St. Mary’s Center in 2016. A partnership with the Moving to Work program of the Oakland Housing Authority reduces program costs for women in transitional housing. Up to 25 women benefit from transitional housing and case management through St. Mary’s Center.
Friendly Manor Auxiliary and volunteer groups provide lunches, personal and hygiene supplies for women, and clean, gently used clothing, which is greatly appreciated.
